How this is counted, and what that is worth. Your browser keeps its own record and tells the site only that a number should go up by one. No account is created, no identifier is stored against the counts, and nothing is sold or shared. That is why the figures are cheap enough to keep at all.
It also means they are approximate, in ways worth stating rather than hiding. Clearing site data starts a browser over. A phone and a laptop are two visitors. And a run of days is counted by the same browser that reports it, so the board is a matter of good faith — the site checks only that a run cannot be longer than the time that browser has been known to it.
